Local photographer’s exhibition opens
The Tolbooth Art Centre in Kirkcudbright continues its 2012 exhibition programme with an exhibition in the main gallery of photographs by Robert Dabner, from Stranraer.
Since 2005 he has been able to turn a photographic hobby into a profession. He said: “My passion for photography started at 11 years of age working with my father in a wet darkroom and using half and full frame plate cameras both on glass plates and film.
“This has continued throughout my life mainly keeping a photographic history of my family and photographic industrial records and advertising for business use. In 1996 I started to use photoshop to produce my photos. Five years later, and with six upgrades of printer, I finally started to produce finished prints which I was happy with. In 2005 I started to produce large landscape prints and to my surprise a lot of people were willing to buy them so a passion turned from a hobby into a profession.”
The exhibition will feature many recently photographed landscape subjects from Kirkcudbright and district especially prepared for this exhibition. The Tolbooth exhibition is the first of several showing Dabner’s work across Galloway this year.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday, February 29, and continues until March 17. The Tolbooth is open from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and there is free admission.
