The Royal Burgh of Stranraer celebrated 400 years as a burgh last weekend with the crowning of the King, Innes Jack and Queen, Sophie Irvine Watson, and not forgetting the princess, Courtney Atkin, for the Stranraer 400 Scottish Week.

There was a re-enactment of the signing of the Royal Charter, performed by Stranraer Drama club members Beth McFern, Max Watson, Dylan Kinahan and Ashlyn Kinahan at the Castle Square, plus the voices of the Stranraer 400 Voices Choir.

The Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire John Ross also gave a brief history of the forming of the Royal Charter to make the town a Royal and Ancient Burgh, and there was a decorated float parade through the town centre.

It is hoped to continue a ‘Scottish Week’ in the town in the future.
