Beechgrove Garden presenter and housewives’ favourite Jim McColl paid his annual visit to the village of Port William at the weekend, a place where he always feels “at home”.

As part of the carnival week programme, Jim conducted his Gardeners’ Question Time in the marquee on Saturday morning in front of a sell-out crowd before compering the traditional concert of Scottish fiddle music with ‘The Toorie Band’ in the same venue at night.

Jim said: “I love coming to Port William. I think it’s a special place, as are the people. I feel at home. The people are so friendly and it’s a beautiful part of the country. The original idea was I work with the fiddlers as we do charity stuff all over the place and when I got the invite to come down here I said “of course”.

“The music side is me switched off and I’m a junkie for Scottish music you see! And I’ve never had bad weather when I have come down either.”
