Galloway remembers its fallen war heroes

Remembrance services took place throughout Galloway last Sunday as the area’s towns and villages paid solemn respect to the fallen of two world wars and subsequent conflicts.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in the First World War and the men who gave their lives in that conflict, form July 1st to November 18th, 1916, were especially remembered.

Galloway Gazette photographer Eddie Flannighan was at the services at the war memorials in Wigtown, Newton Stewart, Minnigaff and Creetown and Gazette reporter Louise Kerr was at Port William.
