Today is Armistice Day and this Sunday is Remembrance Sunday when poppy wreaths will be laid at war memorials all over the country to remember the dead of two world wars and subsequent conflicts.

Our Galloway Past Picture this week is of a service of remembrance at a Galloway village war memorial in the 1960s with the Boy Scouts, the Brownies, the Girl Guides, a pipe band, local dignitaries and members of the public observing a solemn silence as the wreaths were laid at 11am.
