The Galloway Cattle Society of GB and Ireland are delighted to announce the Herd of the Year winner is J & S Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, Dumfries, with the Herdman of the Year being Dougie Ross also of Romesbeoch.
It is an impressive seven times out of ten years that the family of Jim, Selina, Dougie and Carolyn have secured the Herd of the Year Trophy. The family travelled to five of the qualifying shows, which included the Royal Highland Show and The Great Yorkshire Show. Their star attraction Nerys 1307 of Romesbeoch won three major shows, her prize haul included Reserve Interbeef champion at the Great Yorkshire Show and champion of champions at the Galloway National Show at Stewartry Show. She is an ET out of the very famous show cow Doon of Urr Nerys 42nd who had many championships to her name. Her ET sister Nerys 1036 was reserve at the National Show. The Ross family have also enjoyed success in the sale ring, as last month they received the fourth top price for a bull sold at a Society sale, their sole entry Windsor of Romesbeoch sold for 12500gns to B Schlichterle, Germany.
In second place was John, Anne, Kelly and Iain Finlay, Blackcraig, Corsock, mostly all their points came from their championship win with Blackcraig Noreen T423 at the Royal Highland Show. The family also travelled to the Great Yorkshire show for the first time.
This year to support GCS show exhibitors Mr David Heath, Ravenfields, has kindly offered to award £100 cash at each show, The Royal Highland Show and The Great Yorkshire Show to the new (not have shown at the previous three shows) exhibitor who gains the most points in the classes.
