LAST year The Galloway Gazette highlighted the plight of children in Galloway who were told their branch of the National Youth Choir of Scotland was being merged with one in Dumfries.
There was uproar from parents who were facing a two-hour journey on a school night to keep their kids involved in singing.
Thankfully, Dumfries and Galloway Council stepped in and with their backing, two new choirs were formed - the Galloway Machars Choir and the Galloway Rhinns Choir.
Both choirs have had a very successful first year and are now putting on a summer concert in Stranraer Academy on Friday, May 31 at 6.30pm. There will be a performance from both choirs and some of the programme will be sung jointly. Everyone is welcome to come and support this event.
The choirs are funded through Creative Scotland and have been free to any pupil in primary school from P4 upwards.
