Three talented pupils from the Douglas Ewart High School came first, second and third in an art work competition run by the Robert Burns World Federation.

On Wednesday morning, first prize winner Darren Jones and second prize winner Lara Hutchison received their certificates, the Provost Coffey Quaich and £100 for school funds from Jane Brown, the head of the Robert Burns’ World Federation.

Also attending the presentation was their teacher Bob McNaughton, who is retiring this summer after 31 years service to the Douglas Ewart High School.

Mr McNaughton said: “A lot of hard work has gone it to this but we have all really enjoyed doing it. Burns means a great deal to the children.”

Jane Brown added: “I congratulate the children and the talent they have shown is wonderful. The federation is about promoting the work of Burns and the Douglas Ewart pupils have produced work of a very high standard. We are very proud of them.”

Missing from the presentation was third prize winner Ryan Cosker.
