The sixth running of the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright’s Annual Duck Race in the River Dee, Kirkcudbright took place last Saturday.

The winning duck was the first from Kirkcudbright Marina to pass under the road bridge, and this year saw a record number of entries in both categories.

Over 1200 ducks raced in the first race for £185 worth of prize money. Two of the first four ducks home were owned by Kirkcudbright residents, the other two owners living in Falkirk and Lancaster.

The second race was for ducks owned by local businesses, but prior to their launch there was the traditional fashion parade.

Cup Cake Duck entered by the Belfry Café in Kirkcudbright did very well and came second in both categories. The winner of the race was Cavers Duck entered by Neil Cavers & Co, and the winner of the fashion parade was Miss JSF 2013, entered by James Smith Fencing.

Altogether nearly £3,500 was raised for an international Rotary charity and Abbeyfield and Merse House in Kirkcudbright.

The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright would like to thank all the individuals and businesses who took part and look forward to organising the seventh running in 2014.
