Storytelling sessions for children

As a taste of things to come once the new Centre for Children’s Literature is open, the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is hosting a day of children’s storytelling activities on Saturday, June 1.

The event is at St George’s Church Hall, Dumfries, and in the garden of Moat Brae itself. “Flights of Imagination with Peter Pan”, which forms part of Dumfries and Galloway Children’s Arts Festival, features a puppet theatre, workshops with children’s authors, a treasure trail and many other activities through the day.

Families with children are invited to picnic in the garden at Moat Brae – weather permitting. The initiative forms part of the Trust’s ongoing programme of events and has been designed to showcase the type of activities which it will offer on a daily basis once Moat Brae House is restored and the new centre for children’s literature developed.

Describing the activities which the Trust has planned for June 2, Carolyn Yates, literature development officer for the region said: “I am delighted to have been able to help the Trust arrange this event. It promises a whole day of children’s activities, including storytelling through different media such as puppets, actors, authors and, of course, the imagination of children themselves. Glasgow University’s MAYHEM scientists will demonstrate science experiments and young actors from Dumfries’s very own Sunlight Productions will be presenting excerpts from their production Neverland – A Musical. The whole day will be typical of the fun but educational activities that will be offered in Moat Brae in years to come and I look forward to supporting their exciting plans for the future.”
