Red Cross stalwart Elma Walker from Newton Stewart had the thrill of a lifetime during the summer when she was invited to Buckingham Palace.

Elma and fellow volunteer Hazel Harvey attended, along with others from Dumfries and Galloway, the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross at the Palace in June.

Both had a wonderful day, and, out of thousands of volunteers there, were fortunate enough to meet and shake hands with Prince Charles.

Elma said: “The conversation with Prince Charles was about learning new Red Cross procedures, although he said he would learn something one day and forget it the next!”
