Dumfries and Galloway’s MP Richard Arkless has expressed relief at being only one of five SNP MP’s not to be named as ‘Pointless’.

BBC One’s daytime quiz show Pointless, ended when the contestants were challenged to find a Pointless answer to the category – “SNP MPs elected in May 2015”.

The contestants who were playing for a cash prize of £6,000, named former First Minister Alex Salmond. Sadly because Alex Salmond was not a Pointless answer, the contestants did not win the money. The shows hosts went on to reveal that in fact the vast majority of the SNP MPs elected last May would have been Pointless answers with only Alex Salmond, Mhairi Black, Richard Arkless, Carol Monaghan and Calum McCaig being named by the 100 individuals questioned for the show.

Mr Arkless said: “I’m delighted to be one of only five SNP MPs to not be Pointless! The question on the show has resulted in a good few jokes between myself and my colleges, most of whom have been confirmed as Pointless. But seriously, it is good that my name was mentioned by the 100 people asked the question as part of the show, it could mean that the work I am doing to try to promote Dumfries and Galloway may just be filtering through. It’s not about me, it’s about D&G - and if some people know who I am, then they hopefully know about Dumfries and Galloway too - and that’s the most important thing.”
