Wigtownshire man Billy McDougall has been installed in office as Chairman of Scotland Chapter of Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate of GB inc.

Billy, who works for Loreburn Housing Association as Clerk of Works (Planned) joined the Institute in 2010 as a Licentiate member on licence whilst undertaking study and training before gaining full corporate membership in 2012. Billy quickly took an active role in his Chapter and was elected onto the committee the same year where after only 3 years was elected into office as Chapter Chairman.

Billy said: “I am honoured and privileged to represent the membership of Scotland Chapter, I intend to uphold and promote the values of the Institute whose moto is `Potestate, Probitate et Vigilantia` at all times – `Ability, Integrity and Vigilance`

Since becoming a member I have continued to gain and widen my knowledge through the excellent CPD sessions and tapping into the vast experience and available network of other members, I feel I am a much better professional through my membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works.”

The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate is the Professional body that supports quality construction through inspection. As a membership organisation we provide a support network of meeting centres, technical advice, publications and events to help keep our members up to date with the ever changing construction industry.

Entry to the Institute is possible with a wide range of construction and civil engineering qualifications,

Entrants may work towards NVQs/SVQs in Site Inspection at Levels 3 and 4.

They may also work towards different levels of membership of The Institute of Clerks of Works – Student, Licentiate and Member.

Student membership is open to those studying one of the following:

· NVQ/SVQ Site Inspection Level 3 or similar

· a relevant BTEC national award or Scottish Group Award (SGA)

· a relevant Advanced or further City and Guilds Certificate

· a qualification at this level with an associated professional institute recognised for

exempting qualifications.

Licentiate membership is open to those who have successfully completed the above.

Member status is open to those who have achieved one of the following:

· NVQ/SVQ Site Inspection Level 4 or similar

· a relevant BTEC/SQA higher national award

· a relevant first or higher degree

· corporate membership by examination of one of the associated professional institutes recognised for exempting qualifications.

Entry to each level requires not only a relevant qualification but also a detailed report of the candidate’s professional history, a professional practice interview and a materials identification test.

More and more employers require applicants to be members of The Institute of Clerks of Works therefore there has never been a better time to apply for membership.
