Members of Whithorn and District Business Association, aided by the Whithorn Boys’ Brigade, cleaned the beach at St Ninian’s Cave last weekend so as to have it clear of plastics and seaborne rubbish in time for Easter.

A spokesperson for the business assosiation said: “Our thanks to the Boys’ Brigade (and dads) for their help and thanks to Mr Johnston Stewart for providing the transport for the rubbish and to June McKinstry, Dumfries and Galloway Council, for providing litter pickers, bags and gloves.

“The previous weekend, members of the Business Association litter picked the verges in Sorbie Forest, finding dozens of plastic drinks bottles and takeaway food wrappings. The association made a plea for the driving public not to throw away litter on the roadsides anywhere, let alone in beauty spots like the Forest.”
