The Belted Galloway Visitor Centre have been at the receiving end of several awards just recently.

The centre, which has been opened for a couple of years now, recently had visits from Lonely Planet and VisitScotland. Both organisations were suitably impressed resulting in awards for the popular centre.
The Scottish Tourist Board (VisitScotland) representative found the property of a very high standard and awarded the operation a 4* Visitor Attraction Award. The visiting inspector was also impressed by the food on offer and as result of this the property also gained a ‘Taste of the Best’ award. In addition, given the layout and design of the property, a Grade 1 Access award was also granted as the building as the layout allows freedom of access to the less mobile and wheelchairs.
A few days before this a representative from Lonely Planet called in. As a result, the centre will be in the next printed guide for Lonely Planet - Scotland. The Lonely Planet Guides, both in printed and internet form have an estimated audience of 70 million each year. It was expected that this mention will give Newton Stewart a “sights” heading and put the town on a par with Kirkudbright, Castle Douglas and Gatehouse who all have “Sights and Activities” mentioned under the town headings.
