Whithorn miss out on grant

Whithorn Community Council have lost out on a council grant of around £200 because they were too late putting in their application.

This was revealed a the monthly meeting of the community council last week. Chairman Francis O’Neill said that the former treasurer had missed the deadline in march “through no fault of her own”.

A council spokesperson said: “Each financial year the Area teams write to each community council advising them that they can apply for an admin grant, and send them the appropriate form and guidance, together with notification of the closing date. This information was issued to Whithorn CC on 3 August 2011 and the deadline for applications was 31 March 2012. “Unfortunately Whithorn failed to submit an application by the deadline. Late applications cannot be accepted because there is a cut-off date for transactions from the appropriate financial year. Whithorn Community Council can re-apply for the next round of funding.”
