THE Next Step Progress Voluntary Group has set about fundraising for the Coronation Day Centre, Stranraer - a much needed facility in our community. The group are undertaking a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) entitled Working with Others. The programme is being delivered by the Lowland Training Programme and supported by the Council’s Community Learning and Development Service.

The group raised decent sponsorship and persuaded 21 year old Craig Brackenridge to have his chest waxed. Last Wednesday morning in the Coronation Day Centre, Rebecca Whannel from Time Out was ability assisted by a queue of volunteers to carry out the deed.

Spokesperson Brian Muir from the group said: “We read in the local press about the Day Centre in dire need of funds for this well used facility. Everything seemed to come together so the waxing was a natural way to proceed. The group are hoping to raise even more monies at a bingo night in the Coronation Day Centre on Friday 17th February.”

Mrs Theresa Croucher, a member of the Coronation Day Centre said; “Craig was a very brave lad doing this, as well as raising much-needed funds for our centre. I did enjoy having the pleasure of removing one of the waxed strips from his chest though.”
