Help for patients and carers

STRANRAER is to host a training course to help people with different neurological conditions and their carers.

“Neurological Voices” is a short training project that prepares people with different neurological conditions (such as ataxia, dystonia, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, ME, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and more) and carers to get involved in planning and improving their local health services. It is run by the Neurological Alliance of Scotland, in partnership with local NHS health boards.

The course runs for three half-days, spread over two weeks. It explains how the NHS operates and highlights how patients and carers can have their say to influence local services. Training is carefully paced and will be made accessible to everyone who attends.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway has been working on its strategy for improving neurological services and wants to have patients and carers round the table. This course prepares people to communicate their views effectively and make the most of this opportunity.

In the first instance, Neurological Voices taster sessions, lasting two hours, are being offered to allow people to find out whether the full course and role of patient representative is right for them. Tasters are also a chance to express your views on your treatment and care and to hear about other people’s experiences.

The taster session will be at Stranraer Library on Wed, February 29, 1.30-3.30pm. Neurological Voices full course will take place on Thursdays, March 15, 22 and 29, all half days, at a venue to be confirmed. Tasters and training are free, with refreshments provided. All travel expenses will be paid. There are 20 places at each taster and 10 places on the full course. Anyone interested should request a booking form as soon as possible.
