When a TV company next records The World’s Worst Roads, it should try the B7005 from the Bladnoch turn off to past Airriequhillart. The stretch is short but perfectly malformed and should be driven using an old family car without four-wheel-drive – and from the perspective that it is the only form of transport available to a pensioner and will not be replaced.

I should like to thank the staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. I spent most of December there. My special thanks to the staff of wards four and 16, who looked after me with great care and attention. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, and they all made me feel very cared for. A final touch was when a greetings card was forwarded to me after I had left.
