LETTER: Furious over Dumfries spending

Having seen on television a report about the spending of £1 million to tart up Burns Square in Dumfries, I am absolutely livid.

We are constantly told that there are insufficient funds to repair all the potholes in the roads across the region, resulting in some minor roads in my area becoming impassable, and yet our councillors are proposing to spend £1 million on a square in Dumfries.

In a period of austerity, the money available to run council services should be closely regulated and not squandered on projects such as this.

Dumfries and Galloway Council appears to have lost sight of what priorities the electorate needs, and should take a long, hard look at what is needed in terms of basic necessities.
