Father’s Day Hog Roast Lunch in Wigtown

This weekend Wigtown welcomes two exciting, new fundraising events for Cancer Research UK.

The Purple Thistle Ball, dinner, dance and auction takes place on Saturday night and the event is already sold out with more than 200 people looking forward to dancing the night away in support of the charity.

A fantastic selection of auction items have been kindly gifted by local and national companies and individuals, which auctioneer Iain McFadzean will encourage guests to bid for after dinner before they dance the night away with Mystery Train.

In addition, a Father’s Day Hog Roast Lunch will take place on Sunday from 12.30-3pm, inviting families to come along for a hog roast roll and to participate in the fun games and activities which will include a bouncy castle, face painting, treasure hunt, garden tour of Duncan Cottage, children’s sports, raffle and much more. Tickets for Sunday are still available and are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children (hog roll and activities included).

The events are being organised by Cora Sharp and her mum, Sandra, following Cora’s diagnosis with breast cancer last year. Cora said: “In July last year, at the age of 34, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. To say it changed my life is an understatement. I was immediately immersed in a world that up until then I wasn’t even aware existed. It was a world of caring, sharing and understanding; the treatment I received was second to none. Having said that, there is still a long way to go and much research needed to be able to finally win through for everyone diagnosed with cancer.

“Having been treated so well and met so many dedicated people along the way, I feel it is time for me to give something back and celebrate life with a party! Although the Purple Thistle Ball is sold out, I’d like to warmly welcome everyone who would like to support Cancer Research UK and enjoy a fun-packed afternoon to come along to the Father’s Day Lunch. Cancer Research UK is a charity close to my heart and to those of so many, I hope you’ll come along and help to raise as much money as possible to help beat the disease.”

Tickets are available by contacting Cora on 01988403242 or from the Festival Office, County Buildings, Wigtown.
