Ethel Brolls

A display of donations sent to Ethel Brolls for her ongoing knitting appeal for Romanian orphans can be seen in the Whithorn Library during opening hours in September.

Ethel’s knitting appeal is widely known far beyond the boundaries of her home town. Every day she gets parcels and letters from all over the UK and regularly gets donations sent from Australia. Ethel can often be seen loading boxes of knitting onto the Blythswood Care Charity lorry in Newton Stewart every month. She is grateful to Sheila Taylor and Margaret Elthin for their help driving her there.

Ethel collects jumpers, hats, mitts, scarfs, socks, comfort blankets and soft toys for toddlers and small jackets, bonnets, mitts, bootees and blankets for babies.

Donations of DK wool are always welcome so if you can help Ethel in any way with this worthwhile appeal please contact her at 1A King’s Road, Whithorn, Newton Stewart, DG8 8PP.

The opening hours of the library in St John Street are: Opening Hours: Tuesday: 10.00am to 1.00pm; 2.30pm to 5.00pm; Wednesday: 6.00pm to 8.00pm; Thursday: 2.30pm to 5.00pm; Friday: 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
