Cat show raises hundreds

THE Stranraer and District branch of the Cats Protection held a rehoming show in Newton Stewart recently.

The show proved to be a great success raising £673 and having a possible eight cats to be homed. The funds raised will go towards paying for micro chipping equipment, saving the branch about £1,000 a year in vet bills. Many thanks to the volunteers, without whom it would not be possible. Unfortunately Bubbles and Squeak, two gentle 13 year old pensioners did not get homed and are still looking for that special retirement home.

They came to the organisation when their owner had to move and the situation was not suitable for them. They have lovely temperaments, being very gentle, affectionate and loving. They would make superb companions for anyone looking for a bit of company in the house.

The Cats Protection have dealt with a number of distressing cases recently, including discovering a mother and her kittens under a bush in the car park at Sainsbury’s in Newton Stewart. Sadly the kittens didn’t sirvive despite five days of nursing, but the mother was rehomed in Castle Douglas.

The team have also dealt with various properties housing more than 20 cats - some of which were living in amkeshift runs created from upturned fridges.

Anyone interested in giving the beautiful Bubble and Squeak a home should get in touch on 0845 371 2759 or email: catsprotection01@btconnect.com
