The members and guests of Mochrum Burns Club arrived at the Monreith Arms Hotel last Friday in eager anticipation of another fine supper. They were not disappointed.

We touched loosely on these problems when discussing winter equine problems late last year. Over the next two weeks we will learn about them in slightly more depth because the wet and warm weather we’ve generally had over the past few months have provided the perfect conditions to make both infections more prevalent.

ON Saturday 28 January, Dundrennan was the venue for a very special gig by Scottish singer/songwriter Dave Robb. Dave has toured with The Proclaimers and supported Christy Moore and has long been known as Scotland’s Bouzouki Playing Bard. He has been living and writing in Belfast since 1999 where he has become a significant figure in the Belfast music scene.

Following last weeks appeal, we are delighted to announce Skye has found a new home! Despite a previous appeal though, Chi is still looking for a family to call his own. Chi is a slender black male, who is five-years-old, and has been used to being both in and outdoors. He is very, very friendly with a good head rub being one of his favourite hobbies! Chi has managed a much needed weight gain since his arrival into care and is now ready to settle into a forever home. Historically he has been rather bald on his legs/tummy but with love and good food, his hair is now regrowing and he is a healthy, happy cat. As always, our cats are fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.

KIRKCUDBRIGHT Choral Society (KCS) is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year with several events to mark this auspicious achievement.

Chas and His Rock’n’Roll Allotment is a gardening book like no other. Written by Chas Hodges, better known as half of musical duo Chas and Dave, the book is full of funny stories and anecdotes interspersed with the author’s tips for “growing your own”.

This week concludes the series looking at heart disease in our pets. Having discussed the clinical signs, examination and diagnostic tests, we finish by considering a few of the most common heart problems.
