Comments: Rally will force streets to close I would like to make it clear as Organisers of this years Merrick Forest Stages Rally that contrary to your headline in this weeks edition of Galloway Gazette we have no intention to FORCE the closure of the main street. This is why we have gone to the trouble of organising a Public Meeting in the Lower McMillan Hall this Wednesday to gauge public opinion. As I openly admitted in my statement that we had come under some criticism from members of the business community as takings had been down due to the street being closed. We value local opinion. The cost to both the Rally and the Newton Stewart Businesses Association for the closure last year was in excess of £1000. The Merrick Forest Stages Rally brings much needed investment to the local area with the number of Competitors and Spectators that come to take part and fill the Hotels and Guest Houses, we wish to continue supporting the local Galloway Area but in return need support from the community.
